Even if you turn out to purchase another EVSE, it's good to have the backup of the OEM EVSE ready even if it's not used on a daily basis. For level 2 chargers, you may need to use a plugin that would be used for a dryer, whether it be old or new, or you may need to hardwire the charger in. Have you tested your OEM EVSE that came with the car with your 240V 30A circuit yet? You really should set up and test that before you purchase any other EVSE. But any Clipper Creek or Juicebox are well known to operate effectively.īut it's just an extension cord, albeit a smart one that doesn't deliver power until plugged in along with the ability to tell the EV the maximum amount of power to pull. As long as it has the right current rating (24A max for your 30A circuit), and that it has the correct plug, all of them generally work fine except for maybe the low end Chinese made ones like the Duosida found on Amazon. And while there are different extension cords for different needs, at the end of the day all are just extension cords. Honestly an EVSE is little more than an extension cord. I don't remember reading a response to those postings. Early on I asked you about your charging needs and gave suggestions about useful setups. I think most of us are unsure exactly what your are looking for. The links to eBay and Amazon are not an endorsement of these online behemoths ![]() Will be much cheaper to take advantage of an existing dryer 240V outlet, but the breaker is 30A on that circuit. I do use it sometimes though, when we are staying somewhere at least overnight, when it can put 50 mi extra range. Hey all, Don't have my Juicebox 40 plugin EV charger yet, but am having some electrical work done to prepare. I also bought two adaptors, 14-30P to 10-50R and 14-50P to 10-50R, $60.00 each.Īlso, I have (somewhere) a 10-30P to 10-30R extension cord, because it was "cheap" on eBay The Tesla Tap is another $250.00, but it is on the J1772 plug side, which doesn't help with the dryer receptacle obviously.Īltogether, that's $800-plus worth of charging gear, plus the house EVSE (another $400.00), and of course the anemic 120V charger the Bolt came with. Mine has a 10-50P plug, and I think some sellers will ask you what plug you prefer. I bought it back in May 2017 for $400.00, but not it looks like it's more expensive. That’s my two cents, for whatever it might be worth.I have a ZenCar EVSE, where you can choose 16, 24 or 32A. The sooner you make your garage a high power recharging facility for yourself, the better off you will be while you live there and the better off you will be when you move. Sit back as electricity flows into the batteries. Steer your EV next to the charging station and plug in. Go to the setup functions, select the WiFi network and enter the WiFi password. The world is going to electric cars, especially this country, whether we want it to or not. Open WiFi settings on your smartphone while standing close to the JuiceBox. It cannot really hurt, and I would rather do that then plug it in at night and not see a full charge in the morning, even though I rarely go out of town. For instance, if a friend came over to charge, you could unplug your dryer and plug in his car with a separate car charger that would likely require a Nema 10/14-30 to 14-50 adapter. And doing the additional electrical work for the charger increased the value of my home, my realtor says. ![]() The Enel X offers two options of JuiceBox home charger: plug-in and hardwire versions. But now, I know for certain that if I plug it in at night, I will have a full charge by morning. The next best option is to plug into a household dryer plug, also known as a NEMA 14-50 outlet. For compatibility with other outlets, JuiceBox may require one of these adapters. A plug-in JuiceBox comes equipped with a 240-volt NEMA 14-50P connector for high-performance charging up to 40A, or 10 kW. It took virtually all day, or it would’ve been much easier and much cheaper to get it done. Plug into JuiceBox Smart Charging with Common Home Outlets. I thought it would be easy but there was a difficult passageway through the ceiling area from the circuitboard to the garage. I hired to have it done because there was no room left on my circuit breaker board to add more. I could Parkette in the garage and plug it into a normal outlet and wait for the overnight charge to take affect, and I did that a few times, but then I realized that ultimately if you want to be quite certain that you will have a full charge every morning, you need to have a charger that will work, and that meant adding a 50 W charger. I thought hard about all of that when I got my first eyepiece. ![]()
